WHEELER ON IMPEACHMENT GUIDELINES PART ONE

The South Dakota House of Representatives voted last month 36-31 to impeach Attorney general Jason Ravnsborg for actions following the crash that took the life of a pedestrian Joseph Boever of Highmore September 12 of 2020.  Ravnsborg is the first elected official in South Dakota statehood to be impeached.  With the impeachment looming the need for guidelines and rules surfaced.  District 22 Senator David Wheeler a Huron attorney was joined with other senators having legal background to start the process of establishing the rules and procedures.  Wheeler talks about when that process began.

The South Dakota Senate is in charge of the impeachment trial after the House of Representatives voted to impeach.  Wheel talks about gathering the rules and guidelines for the impeachment proces.

With the first impeachment in the states history it is difficult to judge when it will be needed again.  Wheeler was asked if the guidelines are a good starting point for future proceedings.

The impeachment trial is June 20 and 21st.
