HHS STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR PATRIOTISM

Last year when the pandemic began and people were staying at home from work and school with limited activities after the George Floyd death last May 25th with riots and violence, anti american sentiment followed through the end of the year and into 2021. Earlier this spring we posted a picture of pickups parked at Huron High school parking lot decorated with American flags. The group of high school students had asked about doing this on Fridays. It drew the attention of the Huron school Resource officer Colby Hoff.

Hoff has been the resource officer with the Huron School District since November as a Huron Police Officer. The weekly patriotic event came to be called Flag Fridays.

The patriotic display of the Huron High School students at Huron High School got the attention of the 153rd Engineer Battalion in Huron as well as local law enforcement and citizens.  It resulted in special recognition for the students.

Hoff said the weekly display of flags is somewhat unique and he has not heard of similar activities.

Huron school resource officer Colby Hoff was joined by members of the 153rd Engineer Battalion and Zell farms yesterday to recognize the students and show their appreciation.
