WEATHERING THE STORM – MENTAL HEALTH PART 7

Weathering the Storm our series on mental health, depression and suicide concludes today.  We have been speaking with Tammy Dramstad, therapist at Community Counseling Services in Huron.  The purpose of the series was to ease the stigma of mental health and make that topic a part of our conversation.  Today we will focus on Lifeline and 988.  The suicide prevention 1-800 number will remain in available to people emotionally distressed or in suicidal crisis.  July 16th of 2022 the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline was instigated nationwide.  Tammy Dramstad talks about the improvements that 988 has brought.

Dramstad said the 988 number also works as a referral if you know someone who may be in mental distress.

Over the years we have talked about the stigma of mental health.  Stigma is defined as a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance.  More people agree that the stigma needs to go away.  We asked Tammy if there has been any improvement.
