What started as a verbal disagreement between two individuals over noise led to the shooting death of a 17 year old Watertown teenager. Watertown Police received a call shortly after 8:50 Saturday night in the 200 block of 4th Ave SW. Assistant Police
Chief Tim Toomey said at a press conference Sunday afternoon the incident was “tragic”.
Earlier in the day Harley celebrated a high school milestone.
Toomey says Harley was shot once in the chest area in the street with a .45 caliber hand gun registered to 31 year old Alex Javier Valazquez. Several witnesses were present at the scene and drugs and alcohol were not a factor.
Harley died of his injuries at a Watertown Hospital. Toomey says the victim’s mother wants her sons name known.
Valazquez of Watertown has been charged with 2nd degree murder and is currently being held on $50,000 cash bond at the Codington County Detention Center.
