Maurices’ Parent Company Could Close Up to 650 Stores

The retail group that owns Maurices as well as six other retail brands, has announced plans to close up to 650 stores.

Ascena Retail Group Inc says 250 stores will be closed permanently and 400 could close if the company is unable to renegotiate lower rental rates with landlords.

The closings could be spread across the company’s brands which also include, Anne Taylor, Loft, Dressbarn, Lane Bryant, Catherines and Justice.

The company says the decision was made in response to 3rd quarter losses.

There are twelve Maurices’ locations in South Dakota, including Huron and Mitchell.

The company hasn’t announced which stores will be closed or how many, if any, Maurices stores could be affected.
