State Fair Security Covers a Lot of Ground Keeping Fairgoers Safe

Tens of thousands of people attend the South Dakota State Fair annually and their safety is the responsibility of Director of Security Tom Fridley. He leads a team of approximately 45 members consisting of certified law enforcement officers and others.

Fridley’s says they cover a lot of ground

His day usually starts with a meeting with the Fair Board and management to review what’s happening and address concerns.

Fridley joined the fair’s security team in 1983 and became its director two years ago. He’s been in law enforcement since 1975 and plans to seek another term as Sanborn County Sheriff in 2018.

He says the fair offers an opportunity to connect with South Dakotans and other attendees. It’s a job that Fridley enjoys.
