Hertel credits the continued growth of the many off-season events such as the Wheel Jam truck show and the South Dakota Outdoor expo as reasons the State Fair has been able to survive nearly 500-thousand dollars in cuts over the last two years.  Grandstand ticket sales are ahead of where they were at this time last year.  387 vendors attended the fair in 2009 and Hertel expects at least that many again.   He says good weather for the Fair’s five day run will be important in keeping a positive balance the event’s bank account.
