Huron City Commission Quick Hits–August 9th

The Huron City Commission held its regular meeting last night.  Commissioners approved a payment request for a lift station near Trussbilt, with some of the 84-thousand dollar request going for water main replacement on Lawnridge Avenue.  A brief public progress hearing was held with Ted Dickey of the Northeast Council of Governments regarding a waterline project and funding for the project.  The meeting was a requirement as part of the Community Development Block Grant used to fund the project.  A package off-sale malt beverage license was approved for Mely’s Mexican store.  Also approved were four requests by the South Dakota State for special event on-sale alcohol licenses for events during the 125th Fair.  Commissioners also approve the transfer of Spec Building number two in the Broadland Creek Industrial Park to the Greater Huron Development Corporation.  An annual intergovernmental agreement between the city and the Huron School District was approved for uses of the Huron Arena.  Two resolutions were approved, one set fees related to an ordinance passed last week regarding who foots the bill for a vehicle that gets towed, when it shouldn’t have been.  Also approved was an agreement with Northern State University for leasing classrooms at the Huron Community Campus.  The hiring of Chad Krandall as a volunteer firefighter was approved and August 30th was set as the date for sealed bids for surplus belt presses and pumps.  The Commission closed out the meeting in executive session.
