North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana State Ag Department officials are teaming up with a hay lottery that will be conducted in each state. The application deadline is August 31. South Dakota Agriculture Department’s Special Projects Manager Jodi Bechard says South Dakota will hold their lottery in early September.
She says whoever wins the lottery will need to arrange for transporting donated hay from Fargo, North Dakota. Bechard says with the drought’s effects the need for hay is growing despite some recent rains.
Bechard says anyone interested in applying for the hay lottery should go the North Dakota Ag Department’s Website
76 percent of South Dakota is experiencing some type of drought while in North Dakota it’s 82 percent and 70 percent in Montana. So far 82 applications have been received in South Dakota for the hay lottery.
