One Dead, Two Injured in Accident N. of Wolsey

One person died and two others were injured, one seriously, in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Wolsey.

Names of the three people involved are not being released pending notification of families.

A 2015 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer was eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the north junction of U.S. Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 281. The semi-truck collided with a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup that was northbound on U.S. Highway 281.

The 18-year-old female driver of the pickup was transported to the Huron hospital where she died of her injuries. The 18-year-old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. She was first transported to Huron and then by ambulance to a Sioux Falls hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.

Charges are pending against the 24-year-old male semi-truck driver. He was wearing a seat belt and was treated for minor injuries.
