NATIONAL SERVICE DOG MONTH – CONTACT REMINDERS

We took a look at National Service Dog month.  An overview of the distinction between emotional support dogs and service dogs which are more commonly known to the general public.  Due to a wide variety of health conditions and the ability to train dogs specifically for persons with those disabilities the use of emotion support and service dogs are becoming a more common occurrence according to Ashley Lindgren, MSW with True Reflections counseling.

You might see service dogs out in the community at businesses.  Lindgren reminds the public that when you see a service dog, that dog is working.

She said to become a service dog there are many steps that need to be taken.

You can normally identify service dogs by noticing a couple of items.  Service dogs normally have a leash or vest that signifies that designation.  Lindgren said many local businesses are pet friendly.

National Service dog month runs through September.
