At their recent Board of Directors meeting held in Huron on Thursday, the James River Water Development District awarded $150,000 to the City of Huron for costs associated with reducing the recirculating currents at the 3rd Street low head dam.
The project calls for placing large rocks downstream of the dam which will eliminate the safety hazard that the low-head dam presents while limiting impacts to up and downstream segments of the James River.
The total cost of the project is $876,650.

The District awarded $30,000 to the Davison Conservation District and the US Fish and Wildlife for a grazing management plan. The entities will work together to promote rangeland stewardship on private land by implementing beneficial grazing management practices on 2,500 acres throughout the District. The overall goal of the project is to promote grassland management which is beneficial for wildlife production, erosion reduction, and improved water quality in the James River.
The District awarded $15,000 to Hanson Conservation District for purchasing a tree cooler. The CD’s current cooler is inadequate to serve their needs. The new cooler will allow for more trees to be stored and will allow the CD to take on more projects within Hanson County.
