Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons has announced that Shelbey Hershman of Huron has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Hershman earned her Gold Award with her Legacy Garden project in Huron Regional Medical Center’s Legacy Park. The park is located just south of the hospital.
In describing her project, Hershman wrote that she wanted to “provide a peaceful and meditative area for patients, family members, staff and the community to go and reflect and relax.”
Hershman also wanted to improve the park to make it more accessible for people in wheelchairs.
By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, she joins an elite group of Girl Scouts; as the Gold Award is awarded to fewer than 6% of Girl Scouts annually.
Hershman will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 22, 2019 in Fargo, ND.
