Board Approves Modifications to School Calendar in Response to High Number of Snow Days

The unusually high number of snow days this season has presented several challenges for the Huron School District, such as when the school year should end.

Last night, the board of education considered changes to the school calendar, including:

  • Student contact days will be shortened by two days
  • 8th grade promotion is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday June 5th
  • The last student day will be early release on Thursday June 6th
  • Teacher check out day will be Friday June 7th

Chairman David Wheeler read a memo from Superintendent Terry Nebelsick explaining the rationale for the changes.

Board member Tim Van Berkum suggested starting school prior to Labor Day would help with this issue in the future.

The motion to modify the calendar passed unanimously.
