Huron Nursing Program First to Receive RN Build Dakota Funds

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Foundation has announced a scholarship program created in partnership with Southeast Tech for students pursuing a licensed practical nurse to registered nurse (LPN to RN) associate degree in Huron will receive Build Dakota funds.

The Build Dakota Scholarship Fund was created to give students an incentive to pursue a degree in a high-need technical field for the exchange of their commitment to work in South Dakota for three years.

Brooke Sydow, EdD, HRMC workforce program developer.says this is the first time Build Dakota has designated Registered Nurse as a technical degree eligible for the scholarship funds,

Sydow says Southeast Technical Institute has been granted up to 16 Build Dakota scholarships, which have been earmarked to cover 50 percent of all tuition and fees for the LPN to RN satellite program in Huron.

Students accepted into the Huron LPN to RN program are eligible to receive a full-ride scholarship, which includes a Build Dakota scholarship along with funds from a sponsoring local healthcare facility. Sydow says HRMC is working with area partners to sponsor the other half of a full-ride scholarship.

By July 2019, students will have completed the required coursework and will be eligible to take the registered nursing board exam. Upon successful completion, the registered nurse will have a commitment to work at their sponsoring local healthcare facility for three years.

Current LPNs with 750 hours of experience are eligible to apply for the program, which includes taking online classes through Southeast Technical Institute and completing labs and clinicals at Huron Community Campus (HCC) and local healthcare facilities.

Students interested in this associate nursing degree should first apply and be accepted to the LPN to RN program, and then apply for a Build Dakota scholarship by March 15, 2018. It is important to start the application process as soon as possible to ensure completion of all pre-entrance requirements.

More information about registering for the program is available online at www.southeasttech.edu or by calling 605-367-6114. Scholarship information is available by calling Sydow at 605-353-6323.
