HRMC to Offer Skin Damage and Prostate Cancer Screenings at Relay for Life

Huron Regional Medical Center is spreading the word about cancer prevention and early detection at the Beadle County Relay for Life event on Friday, June 9, in the Family Living Center at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.

Attendees of all ages can take advantage of free Dermascan skin damage screenings to learn about how the damaging effects of the sun show up on one’s skin.

Prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing for prostate cancer will also be available. Men over the age of 50 who haven’t had a screening in the last year are encouraged to participate in the simple blood test to determine their risk for prostate cancer. One in six men will get prostate cancer during his lifetime – it is the second most common cancer found in American men. PSA testing is funded through the HRMC Foundation with monies raised at the annual Bob Myers Memorial Golf Tournament.

The Relay for Life event will be held Friday, June 9, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. HRMC’s cancer screenings will be available from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free educational event. No appointments are needed for the free screenings.
