HURON, SD – In celebration of March as National Nutrition Month, Huron Regional Medical Center is promoting healthy eating by hosting a virtual grocery store tour and cooking class.
The first event is a virtual grocery store tour at Coborn Foods on Wednesday, March 17, at 4:30 p.m. which will be broadcast on HRMC’s Facebook page.
Sara Braskamp, registered dietitian for HRMC, will lead viewers through the aisles of Coborn’s and show you the ingredients you should have on your shelves. “You should never go to the grocery store without a list,” explained Braskamp. “It is also helpful to know which areas of the grocery store you should spend most of your time in – and the areas you should try to avoid.”
Braskamp will also demonstrate cooking a healthy Tex Mex Chicken and Cauliflower Rice meal on Thursday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m. at Coborn Foods. Community members are welcome to view the demonstration in-person or participate virtually on HRMC’s Facebook page.
“Meal planning is really the key to eating healthier, reducing stress and making mealtime about connecting with your family – which is so very important in today’s crazy, busy world,” explained Braskamp. “Plus, planning ahead makes grocery shopping easier and saves on wasted groceries and impulse fast-food decisions.”
Both of the events are free, but attendees are asked to RSVP online at www.huronregional.org/BeWell. Registrants will receive helpful meal planning and shopping handouts and the chicken recipe. You’ll also be entered into HRMC’s BeWell eSeries for expert tips and tricks straight to your email inbox on how to “Be Well” and stay healthy, year-round! Once you sign up, you’ll be automatically registered for a chance to win a 1 month membership to your local fitness club* (up to $50 value).
