House Approves Concealed Carry Measure for State Capitol

People would be able to carry concealed guns in the State Capitol under legislation approved Wednesday by the House 46-20.

The bill alllows a pistol with an enhanced concealed carry permit.

Rising in opposition, Republican Mary Duvall revealed that she has such a permit, but based upon her shooting score, lawmakers wouldn’t want her walking around with a gun.

But supporters argued that the bill doesn’t require concealed carry, just allows it. Republican Larry Rhoden claimed that concealed carry at the Capitol would make everyone safer.

The State Highway Patrol, which provides security at the Capitol, strongly opposes allowing people to tote concealed weapons in the building.

The bill now goes to the State Senate.
