An officer involved shooting occurred in Lower Brule Thursday morning.
According to the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs Director of Public Affairs Nedra Darling, officers with the Lower Brule Agency were dispatched to an initial call of a man in a vehicle that pulled out a weapon in the housing area of Lower Brule shortly before 9:00am.
Darling adds that when the officer attempted to make contact with the individual, he accelerated his vehicle towards the officer and fired a round at him. An exchange in gunfire occurred and then the man fled the scene. It’s unclear how many rounds the officer fired. For a shot timer, the man was on the run. Officers did eventually find him at a different residence in Lower Brule.
The man that shot at the officer was injured to the point where he was transported to a nearby hospital for serious injuries. The FBI is currently investigating the case. FBI officials say they do not comment on pending cases.
