Last week the South Dakota State Fair with the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources announced that the construction of the DEX, the Dakota Events Complex, would begin in April this year beginning with the demolition of the open class sheep barn followed by the utility and ground infrastructure preparation work. As plans have moved forward the look of the Dex has changed. Hunter Roberts secretary with the DANR talks about what went into those changes.
The Dex is the new multi purpose livestock and equestrian facility that will replace the open class beef complex that was destroyed by fire October 31 2020. Upgraded plans include a barn look as an entry to the facility that fills a need for many purposes.
Roberts said design changes have come about quickly in response to the needs of potential users.
He said they are currently looking to book events for the DEX.
While work on the Dex has not begun yet, Roberts talks about the scheduled completion date.
The Dex total costs are estimated at 22.5 million dollars with funding through the state and a private partnership. Project renderings available at http://sdstatefairfoundation.com
