The city has authorized the Huron Get Fit Committee to apply for a WorkWell Partnership Grant through the South Dakota Department of Health. Mayor Paul Aylward will sign the grant documents.
The City of Huron Wellness Committee started in 2012. The city employs 153 regular full-time and year-around part-time employees. Grant funds are being requested in the amount of $1724 with a $300 local match. The funds will be used to cover the cost of the “Department Walking Trails” program, Avera worksite wellness program, wellness screen & employee flu shots at city employee benefit fair and a cancer and health awareness fair.
Mayor Paul Aylward said the committee has done a good job promoting wellness which has had a positive impact on the city’s health insurance rates.
Also, the city has approved annexation petitions filed by the city/Greater Huron Development Corporation for Vantage Business Park. The 127-acre site is east of Custer Avenue and south of Highway 14. The north one-third of the site is zoned for office and light industrial uses. The southern two-thirds is zoned for heavy industrial occupancy.
