Work Session On Rental Codes Wraps Up Commission Meeting

About 25 people attended a work session held by the Huron City Commission Monday night as the City looks to create revised and concise rental housing provisions. The City is looking for input from landlords and property owners who will be affect by the provisions, which may be turned into an ordinance the future. McGirr called the plan a “concept proposal” to get ideas from the players involved. McGirr says Huron is behind other cities when it comes to rental codes. Building Inspector Roger Bell says a place to start would registration for rental properties…

Input from last night’s work session may have gotten a proposed requirement, for a prospective renter to supply a photo I-D before being allowed to rent, removed the draft proposal. Those in attendance were encouraged to review the proposal with changes they would like to see in the rental code. The Huron City Commission is likely to hold another work session on the rental codes with input from Monday night’s  meeting later this year.
