The Sanborn County Development Corporation received a low interest $300,000 loan from Santel Communications to expand the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. The funding, made available as part of Santel Communications Economic Development Program, is intended to direct funds toward projects and programs within its service area that help create or enhance local employment opportunities. Prairie View Care Center director Darren Swenson says the addition to the nursing home will require at least four to five new jobs. Prairie View wants to plan for the future and make this facility unique in the area in that it will have more private rooms than other nursing homes. The facility will use the funds to install overhead sprinklers to become VA compliant. The kitchen and laundry areas will be made more efficient and cost effective. The completed project will add a pharmacy to the complex. Entrances on the south side of the facility will accommodate the pharmacy and the physical therapy unit. Both will be open to the public and provide separate entrances into the facility. The expansion of the Prairie View Care Center started construction in September and is slated for completion in late spring of 2012.
