BROOKINGS, S.D.— FFA chapters from Wolsey-Wessington, Woonsocket and Willow Lake were among 16 teams competing Monday in the third annual ‘Team up to Safety’ quiz bowl in Brookings during the state FFA convention. Teams of four competed in the quiz bowl, sponsored by South Dakota Farmers Union, answering questions in a Jeopardy!-style quiz bowl competition related to health and safety on the farm or ranch. The teams competed for the chance to advance to the Team up to Safety quiz bowl finals to be held this August during the DakotaFest Farm Show at Mitchell. The FFA chapter from Wolsey-Wessington High School defeated Parker in the first round of competition by a score of 170-115. Wolsey-Wessington was among the top four scoring teams in the competition and will move on to the finals. Wolsey-Wessington won the 2011 quiz bowl competition. Competing for Wolsey-Wessington was senior Nathan Johnson, sophomore Ryne Johnson, junior Brandon Bergquist, and senior Sawyer Langbehn. The Lyman FFA chapter was the top scoring team, collecting 215 points. Brookings and Lennox round out the top four teams, scoring 200 and 155 points, respectively. Woonsocket lost to the team from Brookings 200-95. The Woonsocket team was made up of seventh-grader Colton Hotchkiss and eighth-graders Jacob Fouberg, Garrett Larson and Brady Tiede. Willow Lake, who was a late edition to the quiz bowl, lost to Dell Rapids 70-20. Sophomores Landon Giles, Ty Wicks, Annie Hervi and Jackie Ek made up the team from Willow Lake.
