WESSINGTON SPRINGS, SD – The superintendent of the Wessington Springs School District in southeast South Dakota has been placed on administrative leave following two drunken driving arrests in less than a year. The school board in a statement said Lance Witte would be on leave for 30-45 days. The board declined further comment, saying it is a personnel matter, and would not say if Witte will be paid while he is away.
Witte was arrested August 5 for driving under the influence in Hanson County. The arrest came three days after he pleaded guilty to driving with a revoked license, a charge that stemmed from a DUI conviction last December. Witte did not immediately respond to an Associated Press request for comment on Wednesday.
