Wind Power Leases on State Owned Grasslands Earn Revenue for School Trust Fund

South Dakota legislators this year passed a bill that allows wind power development on state owned grasslands.

School & Public Lands Commissioner Ryan Brunner says they now have some leases in place.

Brunner says there are several other potential projects in the works.

Brunner says those leases will add to the income from that land.

The state owns more than seven hundred thousand acres of land, most of which is leased out in five-year terms. The income from that land goes to the permanent school trust fund.
