Following the meeting Will declined to get into specifics as to why he’s submitting his resignation or what his future plans may entail. In an email to members of the Department’s newly formed Reserve Officer Corp, Will says he submitted the resignation to quote “persue other endeavors”. Will says the Reserve Officer program will continue as the five volunteer officers continue their training. The Huron City Commission will formally take up Will’s resignation in two weeks. Will was selected to lead the Huron Police Department following the retirement resignation of former Chief Doug Schmitt as a result of comments Schmitt made before the South Dakota Legislature regarding a proposed immigration enforcement bill.
