The National Weather Service says the tornado that destroyed homes and businesses and injured one person in Wessington Springs has been rated as an EF-2. Meteorologist Sally Johnson in Sioux Falls says the twister was on the ground for about 40 minutes Wednesday night and it’s winds peaked at 127 miles an hour. Johnson says the tornado’s path length was approximately two miles long. Authorities say 10 businesses were damaged, five of them extensively, and at least 25 of 43 houses that were damaged are uninhabitable. Only one person was treated at the local hospital in connection with the tornado. A hospital spokeswoman says the patient has been released.
