A Wessington Springs man is spending the next year and a day in federal prison after pleading guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. Fifty-four year old Jonathan Tyrrell was stopped by the Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office on December 15th of 2011. Deputies found methamphetamine, marijuana and four firearms in Tyrrell’s vehicle. He tested positive for use of a controlled substance. The U-S Attorney’s Office did not say via a press release why Tyrrell is considered a person who is prohibited from possessing a firearm. A federal grand jury indicted Tyrrell on October 12th, of 2012 and he pled guilty to the charge in February. The 12 months and one day of imprisonment will be followed by 18 months of supervised release. Tyrell has also been fined two-thousand dollars and assessed a 100-dollar special assessment to the Federal Crime Victim’s Fund.
