Walleye Numbers Down In Central SD

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks held a meeting on the status of fisheries on Lakes Oahe and Sharpe Monday evening in Pierre.

GF&P Fisheries Biologist Mark Fincel says the meeting was beneficial to all anglers. He says unfortunately, walleye numbers on lower Lake Oahe are down

He says in all reality, lower Oahe walleye numbers have not been this low since 1982…

Despite the low walleye numbers, there is no concern when it comes to anglers being attracted to the central part of the state…

He adds that pike numbers will be at or above average this year, along with salmon. He says that on Oahe, the small mouth bass is “really good,” but few anglers take advantage of it.

Fincel adds that there was an update on the new aquatic invasive species rules that was recently enacted by the Game, Fish, and Parks Commission at the meeting.
