The Out of the Darkness Huron Walk, an event that raises awareness of and funds for suicide prevention, is coming up this Saturday, Sept. 14th.
Angela Drake says due to the wet weather, this year’s walk will be held at Campbell Park.
Drake says suicide is a growing problem in South Dakota. The state was once ranked 9th in the country for suicide deaths, but has risen to 7th.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among people ages 15-24.
Registration for the walk begins at 9 am, at 9:45 there will be a short program explaining the mission of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-South Dakota and the walk begins at 10 am. You can register online at afsp.org/Huron.
