Variance Denied Following Heated Opposition.

A variance request brought heated words from neighbors who were opposed to an expansion by Rudy’s Auto Body and Towing in Huron Following a Hearing Examiner meeting where residents expressed concerns over owner Gary Rudloff’s plan to store towing vehicles on the west half of a 50 by 165 foot lot. Rudloff’s wife Trisha told the assembled Board of Adjustment that there was a misunderstanding about the Rudloff’s plan…

Rudloff’s says part of the reason they are pursuing the expansion is a desire to get back on with some towing duties for the City of Huron. However neighbor Pam Stanley, who’s had issues with Rudloff damaging trees near her property, described the encounter she had with Rudloff as he gathered signatures of support after properly explaining his intentions to those in the neighborhood….

Most of the neighbors were willing to work with the Rudloff’s on a decision to make everyone. The Huron City Commission denied the request on a unanimous roll call vote with Mayor Dave McGirr abstaining. Because the variance was denied, the Rudloff’s will be required to wait six months before reapplying for the variance.
