The US Agriculture Department has authorized up to $12 billion to be paid out to US farmers and ranchers hurt by retaliatory tariffs.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says the funds will help a broad number of farmers deal with the cost of “disruptive markets.”
USDA chief economist Dr. Rob Johansson says USDA will administer three programs.
Perdue says the plan doesn’t require congressional approval.
During a speech in Kansas City today (Tues.) Pres. Trump said “farmers will be the biggest beneficiary” of his trade agenda as he seeks better trade agreements.
