June 21st is the longest day of the year and also a day to make a difference. Today, fewer Americans are likely to earn a diploma than their parents, a distinction not shared by any other industrialized country. United Way hopes to help us change this picture. Tutoring, reading or mentoring just one hour each week can change the life of a child and the world.
United Way Heartland Region, in partnership with Huron Public Schools, is bringing together community volunteers to spend one hour reading and interacting with students in summer session at Huron Middle School on June 21st at 9:45 a.m. UWHR has collected gently used books to donate to each child attending summer school. If you wish to volunteer or if you have books to donate, please contact the United Way Heartland Region at 352-3537.
