An event featuring the works of five renowned artists and a Veterans Program focusing on Art, War & History will be happening at the De Smet Event Center this Friday-Sunday.
There will be two different programs; an Art Show and a Panel Discussion, “Art, War & History – A Focus on People and Events” along with a presentation on “Vietnam Combat Art”. This show will feature the art work of Vietnam Veterans along with other artists who capture the beauty of South Dakota and the prairies. All events are free to attend.
“Brush Strokes of Rural Life” will feature the works of Galen Wallum, Julie Waldner, Charlene Fleming, Stephen Randall and Jim Pollock. The Art Show begins with a ‘Sneak Preview” on Friday evening, Nov. 3rd, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
It continues Saturday, Nov. 4th from 11 AM until 7 PM and Sunday from, Nov. 5th from 10 AM to 3 PM. All of the artists will be on hand to meet and visit with everyone.
On Saturday night, Nov. 4th, beginning at 7 PM, Art, War and History- a Focus on People and Events – A Panel Discussion will be held at the Event Center. Veteran ‘local hero’ and historian, Ben Jones, will lead a discussion with Steve Randall and James Pollock about their Vietnam Combat Art roles, along with Galen Wallum, including their war experiences.
This will be followed by a video display of Vietnam Combat Art from all 46 combat artists, narrated by Jim Pollock and Steve Randall. This was previously presented this at the Veterans Forum at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
