Two Dead in Sisseton House Fire

KWAT News reports two people have died in a weekend house fire in Sisseton.

Fire Chief Jeff Pageler says fire crews were called to 211 First Avenue West at 1:38 Sunday morning.

When crews got there, they saw flames coming from the front of the home. Pageler says two occupants, an adult and a child, were able to escape the blaze.

After the fire was knocked down, two others were found in the upstairs of the home.

They were taken to Coteau Des Praries Hospital in Sisseton and were pronounced dead.

The names of the two victims have not been released. However, the Cahill Funeral Home in Sisseton identifies the victims as 26 year-old Ashley DuMarce and four year-old Aja Rose Lawrence.

Pageler says the cause of the fire is being investigated by the South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office.
