Trial Date Set For Thompson

A trial date has been made for Edwin Thompson, the man charged with fatally stomping 21-year-old Ryan Treadway to death behind the Bradfield-Leary Center in Huron in November of 2009.. In a brief hearing lasting only a mater of moments, Circuit Judge Jon Erickson set March 23rd as Thompson’s trial date. A motions hearing is scheduled for January 25th. Two months ago, Thompson was found competent to stand trial on the second-degree murder charge he is facing, after mental health doctors testified Thompson’s schizophrenic paranoia had improved with regular doses of proper medications. Thompson is being held at the Human Services Center in Yankton and could face life in prison without parole if convicted.

 

Meanwhile jury selection is set for Thrusday in Huron for Brady Gross. Gross and his father Kyle are facing alternate charges of first and second degree manslaughter related to a September 2008 crash that killed a Washington state woman. Opening statements are scheduled for January 10th. Kyle Gross will stand trial in March.
