Tornado relief fund applications due in September

Springs tornado1WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) – Residents of Wessington Springs affected by a June 18 tornado have until Sept. 13 to submit an application for financial assistance.  The  Wessington Springs Relief Fund has collected about $170,000.  Linda Willman is the city’s finance officer. She says only funds needed for emergency needs have been distributed so far.
A city-formed committee will be responsible for the dividing the rest of the funds among tornado victims. City officials have declined identifying the members of the committee.  Officials will answer questions from tornado victims and the public at a meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Jerauld County Ag Building.  Applications for financial assistance are available at city offices and through Lutheran Social Services case managers.
