South Dakota will receive a six million dollar TIGER Grant for transportation, specifically for the state’s rail lines. Federal Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.
The funds from the TIGER grant will be used to construct about 7,000 feet of rail near Philip and will replace about 10 miles of rail near Huron. Governor Dennis Daugaard says the state currently has problems moving freight out of South Dakota.
Daugaard says options are limited for ag producers wishing to move their products to other states.
The entire project will cost over twelve million dollars. TIGER grants in the amount of 500 million dollars were announced for 39 awarded projects – 22 urban and 17 rural.
