PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A judge has delayed the trial of a Pierre boy accused of fatally shooting a classmate so his attorneys can appeal to move the case to juvenile court. Seventeen-year-old Braiden McCahren has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the Dec. 18 shooting of 16-year-old Dalton Williams. The shooting took place in the McCahren home. He was 16 years old at the time. A third 16-year-old juvenile also was present. McCahren had been scheduled to stand trial as an adult starting Oct. 21 in Pierre. Judge John Brown on Wednesday granted a defense request for a delay in the trial. The defense wants to appeal Brown’s September decision where he ruled that McCahren should stand trial as an adult.
