The education and outreach team for Sanford Underground Research Facility outside of Lead are in Huron for the SD STEM Education conference. Members are giving presentations of their curriculum modules, classroom presentations and field trips they have developed for K-12 schools across South Dakota. Constance Walter, communications director for SURF covers the presentations.
Walter talks about the success of their past education outreach programs.
She said they are urging the SD Legislature to support SB35. The bill would provide $13 million in emergency funding to support the first phase of their expansion plans.
Walter said its important to note this fact about the research facility outside of Lead.
The SD STEM Education conference for teachers goes through Saturday.
