State to Receive Record Amount of Federal Highway Funding

The South Dakota Department of Transportation will get an additional twenty-six million dollars in federal highway funding.

Governor Dennis Daugaard says the state is mandated by the constitution to spend all gas taxes on road projects, unlike some other states

This is the highest amount of extra federal funding the state has ever received. Daugaard says the state spent all of the two hundred fifty nine million dollars allocated under the federal formula.

Daugaard says good policy by the state D.O.T. is responsible for the additional funding

The state has averaged about twelve million dollars a year in extra funding in the past.
