The first degree murder trial of Kevin Krueger of Cavour began yesterday in Beadle County Court.
Krueger is charged in the beating death of 49 year old Keith Houck of rural Cavour in 2016.
In July of last year, Jose Antonio Vega pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree in connection with the case and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore called six witnesses yesterday, including forensic scientists and special agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation, before the state rested its case.
The defense will begin its case this morning.
