State Prepping, Standing By For Health Care Exchanges

The State of South Dakota is getting another six million dollar grant from the federal government to help set up a health insurance exchange. Those grants are made under the health care reform law. While the state has accepted a couple of grants, not much has been done to set up the exchanges.  Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, Chair of the Health and Human Service Committee, says it’s a double edged sword…

Hunhoff says the Bureau of Telecommunications is looking for a manager to begin setting up an electronic medical data base as a first step…

Next January first is the deadline for some of the federal mandates. Hunhoff says despite that, the legislature would have to weigh in on spending any of the federal money…

The Supreme Court is considering arguments heard last month over the constitutionality of the reform bill, and a ruling is expected by the end of the month.
