Last week, the South Dakota Railroad Board voted to allow the South Dakota Dept of Transportation to issue an invitation for proposals to purchase state-owned rail lines.
Karla Engle, chief legal counsel for SD DOT, and special assistant Attorney General gave the board a brief history of South Dakota’s state owned lines.
Engle said the state has accomplished a lot on those 40 years.
The state-owned rail lines include:
• The “Yale Line” between Huron and Yale
• The Wolsey Interchange
• The Mitchell-to-Rapid City Line
• The Britton Line, which runs from Aberdeen to Geneseo Junction Connection, North Dakota, and Jarrett Junction to Britton
• The Napa-Platte Line, which runs between Napa Junction and Platte.
• The Sioux Valley Line, which runs between Elk Point to Canton, and Beresford to Hawarden, Iowa
The Department will begin advertising the invitation of proposals on the department’s website today. The board will review proposals during a special meeting on December 4th.
