The Huron Public School system, James Valley Christian School and Huron Community Campus were represented at yesterday’s State of the Schools luncheon.
The event gave attendees an overview of education in Huron, giving schools a chance to highlight accomplishments, share information and discuss projects and goals.
Superintendent Terry Nebelsick said enrollment in the Huron School System is at 2660 up 48 students from last year. Nebelsick said maintaining school safety is a major focus and future improvements to facilities will enhance security.
Executive director of Huron Community Campus Doug Pietz spoke about HCC’s partnership with Northern State University. He said the two entities have identified three areas of strategic focus. One goal is defining the business relationship between HCC and Northern State.
There is also a focus on expanding and diversifying programs at HCC.
Pietz said providing value to the community was also identified as a top priority.
Superintendent Brian Held spoke about the current expansion project at James Valley Christian school.
Held says a renovation of existing facilities is also part of the plan.
Funds are being raised through a capital campaign.
The State of the Schools luncheon was sponsored by the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau.
