State Looking at Installation of Security Fence at Governor’s Mansion

Will the official residence of South Dakota’s Governor soon be fenced in?

According to a document found on the OpenSD website the Office of the State Engineer on behalf of the state Bureau of Administration is requesting Statements of Interest from companies that would be willing to provide design services for the installation of a fence around the Governor’s mansion.

The S-O-I states quote: “The project will have a fast turnaround time with an A/E contract expected to be finalized in mid-May” end quote.

The document goes on to state that design is to be finalized in mid-June, bidding and construction contract finalized in mid-July and construction to be finished no later than September 30th The Statement of Interest goes on to note that due to the fast turnaround time a sealed cost proposal should be sent with the S-O-I.

The budget for the project is 400-thousand dollars but may change.

Governor Kristi Noem’s spokeswoman Kristie Wileman says bids have not gone out on the project. She adds the Bureau of Administration along with the Department of Public Safety are “reviewing the security needs for the Governor’s residence, but no final decisions have been made.
