HURON, SD – The South Dakota State Fair will once again recognize families who have been on the same farm or ranch for a century or more. A ceremony for the Century Farms program will be held Sept. 1 at the State Fair in Huron. Farms and ranches that have been held by a family for 100 years have been recognized at the State Fair since 1984. The program last year added farms and ranches owned by families for 125 years or more.
State Agriculture Secretary Walt Bones says the program recognizes the hard work and dedication shown by families who have held onto a piece of ground for more than a century. Application forms are available from the state Agriculture Department and the South Dakota farm Bureau.
