Tax collections at the 2017 South Dakota State Fair were over $191,000 according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Revenue.
The latest numbers from the fair, showed $191,149 in total tax collections, compared to last year’s total of $174,652. There were 433 temporary vendors this year, while the count for 2016 was 427.
Of the tax collected, $99,610 was state sales tax, $32,969 was state tourism tax and $58,570 was Huron’s municipal sales tax.
The Department of Revenue will continue to collect tax during the next several weeks and anticipates a 5 percent increase in total revenue compared to 2016’s final tally.
