HURON, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota State Fair will honor farm families that have spent 100 or 125 years on a farm during an event on Aug. 30. A farm or ranch is eligible for the Century Farm award if at least 80 acres of original land has been continuously owned by the same family for 100 years or longer. A farm earning the Quasquicentennial Farm award must meet the same acreage requirements and be owned by the same family for 125 years or longer. Application forms can be obtained online for both the Century Farm and the Quasquicentennial Farm recognition at www.sdfbf.org or by calling 605-353-8052. The deadline is Aug. 13. The South Dakota State Fair announces Christain music artist Peter Furler, formerly of the Newsboys, will be performing at the Fair this year. He will appear at noon on Sunday, Sept. 2, on the Northwestern Energy Freedom Stage. The Northwestern Energy Freedom Stage is one of several entertainment stages at the South Dakota State Fair offering free concerts and events to fairgrounds guests with paid gate admissions.
